Anyone who has had contact with @summore.music, either virtually or online, knows how gracious, humble and lovely Justin and Julie are. Chris and I had the pleasure of seeing them perform at @falloutrva (pictured) on Labor Day weekend with @debrider and @thefinalsound, and they were the most delightful houseguests, too. In the wee hours of last Saturday, after playing another great show in their hometown (Columbus) with @6thcircle666 , @bloodhandsome , @molotov_lust and @cortex_angel , they simply stopped on the way home to eat something (as you do, yeah?) and while sitting in their car (full of gear), they were randomly hit by a passing speeding drunk who lost control. It just doesn’t get more “freak accident” than that. They are both in quite serious condition, in the hospital ever since. Obviously, their lives and work are derailed, gear destroyed…and a long road ahead with rehab, all the inherent insurance and legal BS and just trying to put the basic pieces back together. They are NOT the type to ask for help, but friends of theirs have made a Go Fund Me page (link in Linktree via bio) if you feel so inclined. Also, Julie is doing ok enough to be seeing DMs on the band Insta- send her some love! And, go buy stuff on their Bandcamp and check out their gorgeous videos on YouTube. Luckily, with their resilience and resourcefulness, plus their amazing circle of family and friends who are with them, they are expected to eventually recover- thank the heavens we didn’t lose them! The things all we take for granted everyday- this could have happened to any of us. Please hug your loved ones, go outside, appreciate your health and mobility, be kind to people and yourself- and ffs, don’t drink and drive. Please let’s show @summore.music the wonderful supportiveness of the scene. We love you, J&J! “A tidal wave of emotion, the music of SRSQ @srsqofficial crashes into you with little room to breathe. It’s exhilarating, peaceful and reflective.” In the current issue, we were fortunate enough to catch up with Kennedy Ashlyn to discuss the new album, Ever Crashing, the origins of SRSQ and the best things about the United States. Ever Crashing dropped today and though there are several reviews floating around already online describing its much-awaited magnificence way more definitively than I can, I’d say that listening to Kennedy’s vocals is like chasing the most beautiful butterfly you can imagine…and every time it settles enough for you to get near and admire its details, to almost touch it…it soars away into the sky and out of your reach. Good luck catching that exquisite creature - but the thrill is in the chase, yeah? What a ride! This morning while driving, the track “Élan Vital” single-handedly cured a few days’ worth of existential depression I was going through. The moral of this album is “Yes, existing hurts- but life is still gloriously beautiful and you *will* be ok.” The singles from this in recent months have been lovely- but all together as a whole album, this is a seriously ínstense and convoluted joy ride.
